Advantages of Garaging Your Cars

Garaged Car A Garaged Car Will Be Safer & Last Longer

Nearly 90 million homes in America have an attached garage, yet not everyone uses their garage for parking their car. A car parked outside tends to last about half as long as the same vehicle that’s parked in a garage.  So why don’t more people garage their cars and trucks

Build a Shed and Hoard Less

Perhaps your garage is taken up by a lawn mower or snow blower.  Consider building a secure shed to house these appliances, rather than your garage.

Excessive hoarding of unneeded items is also one of the prime reasons for not garaging your vehicles.  That precious garage space, which makes life so much easier, is taken up by the last three broken grass seed spreaders or the Betamax (young ones, ask your parents what this was) that you could not bear to throw out.  So why not improve your life by getting rid of the clutter while extending the life of your vehicles by garaging them.

Long Live your Car

A car is one of the most expensive personal investments, so keeping that investment in the best shape, for as long as possible, is crucial to long term financial welfare. Keeping your car garaged protects it from the elements, especially the damaging cold. Materials like plastic and vinyl can significantly shrink when temperatures fall below freezing for too long. Even if your garage isn’t heated, a well-insulated garage door can help to prevent temperatures from dropping low enough to cause damage.

The Birds and the Bees

Nothing is worse for your car’s paint than bugs and birds. Bird droppings are acidic and will damage your vehicle’s paint and may eventually necessitate an entire repainting. Keeping your car in the garage obviously alleviates this issue, as our avian friends harmlessly relieve themselves outside, as nature intended. Bugs have a better chance of getting into your car when it’s parked outdoors. Be sure that your garage door seal is thoroughly tight or bugs will find their way in. A professional garage door installation expert can replace your garage door seal and keep those nasty pests away.

The Heated Debate

Parking your vehicle in your garage is a great way to ensure that when it gets cold and blustery outdoors, you’ll be able to get in and out of your car with your belongings, groceries or family because it won’t be too slippery, wet or icy. Heating or cooling the garage space enhances the experience and can easily be done with a well-insulated garage door. It’s a good idea to keep some moisture absorbing mineral salt open in the garage, to help keep humidity low. This will help to prevent rust and mildew growth that often occurs from melting snow and ice in a warm garage.

Clearing snow off your car requires time and effort, usually when rushing off to work in the morning when you’re short on both.  Leaving snow on your cars while driving not only obstructs your vision, but lowers your gas mileage through increased aerodynamic drag and can be lethal for the car behind you that gets hit with an ice missile. In most states it is also against the law to drive with snow on your vehicle. The fines can be substantial and you can be held liable for any damage caused by the snow or ice that falls off of your car.  Obviously, garaging your vehicle, the way your house architect originally intended, solves this issue.

Better Safe than Sorry

One of the best benefits of owning an attached garage is that not only will your car be safe, but you will be as well. Entering your home in a lighted and secured garage ensures that you’ll be safe and sound once you exit your vehicle. Burglars and car thieves are going to have a tough time getting into a locked garage door. Security for you and your car are increased significantly when you park your car in your garage.

Grocery Getter

Garaged Car Garaged Cars Last Longer

There’s a reason many homes are designed so that the attached garage enters the home through the kitchen—it’s because it makes it more convenient to carry groceries and other household supplies to the kitchen and pantry. Whether you’re carrying loads of groceries or just a few items from the local store, garaging your car makes life a little easier.

So why not adopt a new way of thinking by liberating your garage and yourself at the same time?
